***Narrative***
Aphrodite walked down the darkened street, only the swishing sound of her skirts making any noise. The part of town she found herself in was more run down and somewhere she would never consider sending any of "her girls". If it had not been for the fact that she herself was a goddess, it would be a dangerous location for her as well, but she had a few tricks up her sleeve. There have been a handful of men who had tried to proposition her and after being sent away, went home to find that their wife or girlfriend had found another man that same night and decided to leave town with him. Needless to say, Aphrodite did not take kindly to being treated like some common lady of the night.
Now she walked on, carrying herself like a queen with her head held high. Her expression was stoic and her turquoise eyes held no signs of warmth. Those that saw her coming were sure to step aside. Seemed she was perhaps in one of her moods again.
She reached an old stone archway, with long, tall stone walls on either side. Many wondered what was being kept in the labyrinth, but she knew sometimes such things were to keep mortals out. More than one sort of creature lurked in there. Passing under the arch, she confidently took the necessary turns before reaching a dead end. Her eyes searched the wall and found the stone she needed and pushed on it. A slab of stone on the floor slipped open and revealed a set of stairs.
Aphrodite descended down the stairs and after a moment found herself in darkness as the stone replaced itself to its original position over the opening. She held up a hand, palm up and a soft ball of pinkish light appeared, illuminating the tunnel that would lead her to the ancient catacomb. Continuing along, she occasionally waved a hand in front of her to push aside cobwebs three feet before approaching them. She was not about to get the stuff in her hair or on her gown and used her magic to see to that.
After several minutes, she reached a chamber and several people looming about. If you could call them people as the goddess would have said. Aphrodite was impartial to their kind for a long time, until the baroness showed up.
"This place is depressing," Aphrodite said, announcing her presence. All of them immediately turned her, red eyes upon her, some bearing fangs. Danika looked up from a seat she lounged in on the other side of the room.
"Not all of us get the confines of marble walls and finery to call home," Danika said in a voice with the barest trace of spite. "To what do we owe the honor of a visit from the beautiful goddess of whores?"
Aphrodite only narrowed her eyes, but it was enough of a gaze to have almost all of them take a step back. Any inkling of the emotion of love was sapped out of the room and replaced with a cold sense of loneliness. "You try my patience, Danika," Aphrodite said in a cold and even voice. "I suppose it is not surprising. Any little jab you can take at me to make yourself seem so innocent." The last word was nearly spat and in reply, the vampire baroness arose from her seat and approached the goddess without fear.
"It was you who had cursed me!" she shrieked as she pointed a finger. "If not for you, I would not be alone. I would not kill the ones I loved!" Aphrodite sighed, a look of impatience gracing her features as she placed a hand on her hip.
"It would appear that your mind has nearly rotted like the corpses you sleep amongst," Aphrodite sneered. "Or have you truly forgotten how you decided to take my last mortal lover as a meal? Perhaps if you had not harmed that which is mine, I would not have cursed you to kill the ones you love."
"How does the goddess of love do anything without a heart of her own?" Danika nearly growled.
"It was when you broke that heart that my passionate side sought to make you feel such pain again and again and again," Aphrodite replied simply. "And now I need to know about another of your would-have-been victims. An Egyptian girl."
Recognition flashed in Danika's eyes, but she turned away and went to a stone table, fetching a goblet of blood and drinking. She knew the goddess found it repulsive mostly due to her vendetta against her. "Why should I tell you anything?" she said with a tone of indifference.
"Because now she is mine," Aphrodite replied firmly. "And I should hope she has not tasted your blood." Danika slammed the goblet down on the table making a dull thud.
"Now I wish I had made her drink my blood. I wanted to keep her around, actually," Danika said regretfully.
"I will only warn you once," Aphrodite said in a low voice. "You or your little friends touch her, or any of my girls for that matter, I will see to it that you are promptly dealt with. Maybe I can even sweet talk Apollo into helping me... light up this dreary and dismal home of yours." She looked around, not bothering to hide the disgusted expression at the sight of bones and skulls.
Danika now narrowed her own eyes as she looked back at Aphrodite. "I am sure you would do more than sweet talk," she said maliciously. "Your reputation precedes you, but perhaps me and my kind are more resilient than you think we are."
"If I find this warning unheeded, we shall test that out," Aphrodite said as she turned her back looking to make her way out. Danika chuckled.
"Don't care to stay for dinner?" she asked mockingly.
"I would rather spend an evening with my husband than an hour with you and your kind," Aphrodite said over her shoulder and then departed. Danika watched her go, temptation tugging at her if only for the sake of spiting the goddess.
