Background/Biography:
Son of Zeus and Hera, and Brother of Athena and Aris, His fiery side has come to symbolize the more violent aspects of war. The Greeks were ambivalent toward Ares: although he embodied the physical valor necessary for success in war, he was a dangerous force, "overwhelming, insatiable in battle, destructive, and man-slaughtering." Fear (Phobos) and Terror (Deimos)are yoked to his Battle Chariot, the sound of a thousand felled warriors screaming as it rips across the Blood Red Skies. His sexual prowess is as well known as his battle prowess, having fathered upwards of Fifty children, including Eros, Phobos, Deimos, and the Amazon women.
